Gordon Westcott
My name is Gordon Westcott and I am 68 years old, married, with 4 children between us, and now retired from a senior management role in the insurance industry.
Each day we walk our two dogs on nearby Ashdown Forest and I have enjoyed the countryside and outdoor life ever since being inspired by Jack Hargreaves on ‘Out of Town’ over 50 years ago! Since retiring I have been working towards self-sufficiency, growing our own fruit and veg and planting numerous fruit trees in our garden.
I am passionate about preserving nature and its enjoyment and know the many benefits it can bring to individuals, families and communities and am keen to work with others finding ways to bring this about at a local level, whilst addressing the many issues we face together.
I firmly believe we need more new homes for our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren but recognize the pressures it can cause the infrastructure so am keen to find ways of ensuring a fair and sustainable balance between the two.
It has also become apparent to me that our electoral system of First Past The Post is broken, counter-productive, confrontational and divisive and is in need of reform and I want to work towards a more collaborative approach with all stakeholders.
